The 2010 PSAT will be administered on Saturday, October 16, 8:00 am - 12:00pm here at Steele Canyon. Parents and students will be notified about online registration in September.
UC Admission Test Requirements:
You must take the SAT I OR the ACT plus writing component.
You must also take two SAT II subject tests in 2 different categories (see below for additional information).
If taking math subject test, students must take Math 2.
All entrance tests for the UC schools MUST be completed no later than the December 2008 test date (for seniors).
UC Schools choose the highest score from one sitting if taken more than once.
2012 graduates will not be required to take the SAT II Subject tests
CSU Admissions Test Requirements:
You must take the SAT I or the ACT plus writing component.
SAT II Subject Tests are not required.
All entrance tests for the CSU schools MUST be completed no later than the October 2008 test date.
CSU Schools take the highest score from each test area if taken more than once.
SAT I – THE REASONING TEST
This test now includes a writing component and the SAT I total score is worth 2400, not 1600.
SAT II -- SUBJECT TESTS
Required by UC schools and the Ivy League schools.
Not required by all schools so check with the individual school directly on their website or by calling the admissions office.
Each Subject test is one hour long and students can take anywhere from 1-3 subject tests in one sitting.
You can take the test(s) as many times as you like in all categories and use the two highest scores in two different categories.
You cannot take any Subject tests on the same day as the Reasoning test. SUBJECT TEST CATEGORIES
1) English Literature
2) Math IC or Math IIC
3) U.S. History or World History
4) Biology E/M or Chemistry or Physics
(In the Biology category, E is Ecology and M is Molecular. You must choose whether to take E or M on the day of the test)
5) Languages
Starting with 2012 graduates, two SAT Subject Tests will no longer be required for admission. However, students could still choose to submit their scores for consideration as part of their application, just as they do now with AP scores. The Subject Tests also could be recommended for certain majors.
HELPFUL TIP: Schools will see every test score that a student has taken. Students should NOT take the SAT I more than 3 times. The average time a student takes the test is twice.
