GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Please note that only seniors who have met ALL graduation requirements will be allowed to participate in the Graduation Ceremony. This includes all required classes, senior exhibition, paying all fines, and completing all disciplinary assignments, including detentions and Saturday School. No student who owes a Saturday School or lunch detention will be allowed to participate in any senior activity, including the Graduation Ceremony, until that assignment has been completed.
As the senior year comes to a close, it is important for all students to attend daily and continually check academic standing through Parent Portal. Please stay in contact with your student’s teachers to monitor progress so that there are no negative surprises in June.

SENIOR EVENTS

Selection of Valedictorian and Salutatorian
A committee of staff members will be convened in May to determine our Valedictorian and Salutatorian(s). Those students with the highest overall GPA as of this meeting will be selected to receive these honors.

Honor Graduate Notification – May
Those students with an overall GPA of 3.5 or above will be considered Honor Graduates. They will be notified prior to the Senior Awards Ceremony which will be held on May 30th . Honor Graduates are requested to be present at this ceremony.

Cap and Gown Distribution—May 30
Seniors can pick up their Cap and Gown between 8:00 and 10:00am in the Quad by the Finance Office on May 30th. Honor stoles will also be distributed at this time.

Senior Awards Ceremony—May 30
Honor Graduates, Department Award winners, and scholarship winners will be recognized at our Senior Awards Ceremony beginning at 6:00pm in the Steele Canyon High School Quad. Parents and guests are encouraged to attend. Caps and gowns and honor stoles are NOT to be worn at this event.

Senior Yearbook Distribution—May 31
Seniors may pick up their yearbooks in the Gym beginning at 5:00pm. Underclassmen may pick up their yearbooks between 6:00-7:00pm.
PLEASE NOTE: Yearbooks must be picked up before 7:00pm.

Baccalaureate—June 3
Baccalaureate is a celebration of our graduates and will be held at St. Luke Church located at 1980 Hillsdale Road, El Cajon, 92019. This event is sponsored by our PTO and attendance is optional. The ceremony will begin at 2:00pm. Seniors should plan on arriving by 1:30pm to line up for the processional into the building.
PLEASE NOTE: Cap and gown are required. Honor graduates will wear the honor stole.

Senior Breakfast—June 6
The Senior Breakfast is sponsored by the Senior Class parents and the Jamul Kiwanis. Beginning at 8:00am in the Gym, our seniors will gather to celebrate their completion of high school.

Graduation Practice—June 6
ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. Practice for the ceremony begins after our Senior Breakfast, about 9:30am. Seniors will be led through the ceremony and given final details for the evening’s event. 

Graduation—June 6 – 5:45PM – SCHS Stadium
Students must report to the Gym no later than 4:00pm Steele Canyon Graduation Ceremonies have a proud tradition of excellence and decorum. Our seniors work to uphold our core values and we intend to continue this practice. In order to give this ceremony the respect it deserves and to afford each guest an exceptional opportunity, there are guidelines for both participants and guests. Gates open at 4:30pm.

SENIORS
All seniors are expected to dress appropriately for the ceremony, as well as wearing the cap and gown. Dress guidelines include nice pants, dress shirt, and dress shoes for gentlemen; dresses or appropriate pants and blouse for ladies. Ladies are cautioned to avoid high heels as we will be going down stairways during the procession and walking across the synthetic turf field. The only item students will be allowed to bring with them will be their car keys. No electronic devices of any kind (including cell phones) will be allowed. This is to ensure the appropriate decorum for our ceremony. No additions to the cap and gown are allowed, including leis, flowers, decorations, etc. The only deviations from the cap and gown will be the SCHS medallion, tassel and honor stole.

GUESTS
Saving places in line and saving seats in the stadium will NOT be allowed. No balloons, air horns, party poppers, large signs or banners, food or drinks, or lawn chairs are allowed in the stadium. No backpacks, large purses or bags will be allowed into the stadium. If you would like to use an umbrella for sun blockage, please lower it once the ceremony begins in respect for our other guests. Guests will not be allowed on the field at any time during the ceremony. After the ceremony has finished, guests may enter the field to celebrate with their graduates.

PARKING
Parking will be extremely limited. Please plan to arrive early to avoid delays. Although guests frequently park on Campo Road, Steele Canyon does not advise this. Please note that this street is marked “No Parking” and CHP may choose to enforce this at any time at their discretion. Exiting the parking lot will be slow. It will take most guests at least one hour OR MORE to exit the lot due to multiple parking areas and pedestrian traffic on Campo Road. Please be patient with our traffic guides as they will be doing their best in a difficult situation. DO NOT park in areas designated as “no parking” or your vehicle may be towed at owner’s expense.
A limited number of disabled parking spaces will be available near the entrance to the stadium. Guests with disabilities can be dropped off near the gate before parking. Ample seating is available for disabled guests.

SHUTTLE SERVICE
Each year we experience extreme traffic delays on Campo Road prior to and following the ceremony and parking is limit on campus. You may wish to take advantage of our free shuttle service provided at the Skyline Wesleyan Church located at 11330 Campo Road, La Mesa beginning at 3:30pm. The last bus leaves Skyline at 5:30pm. Return shuttle service ends with the last bus leaving SCHS at 8:30pm. One of the shuttle buses will be wheelchair accessible.
PLEASE NOTE: Shuttle buses will encounter the same traffic delays as individual vehicles.

PICTURES
Still photographs of each graduate will be taken by Boyd Anderson Photography. An informational flyer will be included with your student’s diploma. Parents will have the option of seeing proofs online before purchasing at www.boydanderson.com.

GRAD NITE—June 8
This is a PTO-sponsored event which will take place at Disney’s California Adventure Park. All students attending Grad Nite at must have their consent forms turned in to the senior vice principal's secretary by May 30, 2018 or they will not be allowed to attend. Please check with your student to see if they have turned in this form. Forms are available in the vice principal's office. Students should arrive at SCHS at 3:30pm on June 8th. Buses leave SCHS at 5:00pm and return to SCHS
on June 9th at approximately 5:00am. More information will follow via email to parents and will be posted on the SCHS website.
PLEASE NOTE: No over-night parking allowed on campus.
