Cougar XL Elective Course 

A collaborative and supportive learning environment designed with incoming 9th grade students in mind, Cougar XL is offered as an elective course to assist students in the transition from middle school to high school. Cougar XL serves as academic support built into your students school day schedule with the objective: Empowering students to take charge of their own success. Under the guidance of college-educated Academic Coaches who work with certificated staff, students receive tutoring in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Foreign Language, and ENS. In addition to supporting students with healthy study habits, Cougar XL promotes what it means to be a student at Steele Canyon or a “Cougar For Life”. This includes the expectations that we have for students school-wide: Be prepared. Be engaged. Be accountable. Be appropriate.

Minimum education/experience requirements:

High School Diploma required and one at least one of the following:

BA or AA Degree (preferred)

OR

Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units with transcripts provided)

OR

Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (CBEST - California Basic Educational Skills Test)
