Parent, Student, & Teacher Community Forum

Good afternoon Cougar Families,

I would like to thank the staff, students, and parents for their engagement and participation in our focus groups
and follow up surveys. We had about 900 students, 300 parents, and 100 staff members take part in our
surveys and focus groups.

While we desperately want our students back on campus, there remains significant concerns from all
stakeholder groups about bringing a large population of students to campus. The health and safety of our
students, families and staff remain our top priority and we know that learning cannot take place unless our
students and staff feel safe.

After careful consideration of all of the feedback, and extensive conversations with our governing board
members and bargaining units, we have come to the decision to remain in distance learning through
Quarter 2
. We believe this schedule provides the best balance for student learning and keeping our
community safe. For consistency purposes we will retain the same schedule as we did for quarter one. We will
reassess by the end of November to determine how we will start the second semester in January 2021.
We recognize that distance learning continues to be challenging for many. We encourage you to utilize the
academic supports that we have available including teacher led tutorials, CAVE Academic Supports, and
technology support. A list of these supports can be found on our website.
about scheduling a tutoring session with one of our academic coaches. We also recommend directly
contacting teachers and grade level teams for support.

Additionally, we recognize that this experience has taken its toll on the mental health of our students as well. If
your student needs support, we have a full time social worker available for all students. Please visit the
cougar
resource center
on our website.

We thank you for your support and patience. We will get through this together and look forward to the day
when our students return to campus.
