Class of 2023 Information

05-19-23 Senior Only Assembly 

Required assembly for all senior graduates. This will be a brief assembly during Block 2.  We will go over what to expect on the big day (June 8th) and other important things with guest speakers including Mr. Tyler and Mr. Robbins.

05-24-2023 Cap and Gown Distribution (beginning 8:30am in the quad)

Distribution will take place before school starts and also during nutrition break in front of the finance office.  

*IMPORTANT* The SCHS Graduation Cap and Gown are not to be modified in any way.  SCHS has a long-standing tradition of equity and unity in our formal graduation ceremony.  If you arrive on the day of graduation with a modified cap or adornments with your gown, you will NOT be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  SCHS has the right to prohibit modifications that will interfere or distract from the formal ceremony. 

 

The only exceptions will be PRE-APPROVED tribal regalia or recognized objects of religious or cultural significance in accordance with the Law.  If you wish to request an exception, you must consult with Grade Level Secretary Ms. Argueta in the Assistant Principal’s office before June 1st. to request a meeting with Ms. Hernandez to seek approval. 

 

May 27th - Prom  (6:00 - 9:30 pm) 

This year’s Senior Prom will be held at Club Nova in downtown San Diego. Some information: 

  • There are several parking structures in the immediate area, including one directly across the street. It is recommended that students ride-share or carpool. Drop off zone is directly in front of the venue. Please view drop off/parking image here.

  • All Steele Canyon students must bring their student IDs to check-in, and Steele Canyon students must accompany their guests at the check in tables. Guests must have a photo ID to check-in. 

  • All prom participants will be subject to security checks by SCHS and Club Nova personnel. No weapons or personal protection devices are allowed in Nova, nor will they be stored during the prom. The Prom will end promptly at 9:30pm, and it is recommended that students are picked-up as close to 9:30pm as possible.



06-07-23 Graduation PRACTICE and Senior Breakfast (8:30am)

Arrive at 8:30am for your celebratory Senior Breakfast. Food will be provided by our Jamul Kiwanis club and served by senior parents/guardians volunteers. PTO will send out more information. During this breakfast, we will have a “Decision Day” slideshow (details to come). This breakfast will be a great opportunity to collect yearbook signatures from your classmates and teachers. 

 

Beginning at 10am we will begin Graduation Practice.  Hat & sunscreen recommended. Attendance is mandatory at practice in order to participate in the graduation ceremony on 6/8. 

 

06-08-23 GRADUATION  (6pm)

We will be reviewing the details of this day at the required assembly on May 19th.  It will be here before you know it.  Make sure that you make grades, pass Senior Interview & Website exhibition, meet all the requirements to graduate, pay your fines, be safe, and do not do anything to jeopardize participation in prom or the ceremony.  Your families, friends, teachers, and Grade Level Team are looking forward to celebrating your accomplishments. 

FINES:

  • Any residual fines for textbooks, Chromebooks, athletic equipment will interfere with your ability to acquire your cap and gown and graduation.  

  • Current textbooks for this term should be returned directly to your teacher who assigned it to you to prevent any new fines. 

  • Previous Textbooks/books etc.  that you have not returned before the current semester will show in your student portal as a fine or will soon convert into an outstanding fine.  Any and all fines will keep you from receiving a cap and gown.  It is your responsibility to return all items you are responsible for or pay the fine by Tuesday, May 23rd.  See Ms. Gallardo in the library to return any textbooks, novels, library books, etc. by 5/23. 

  • Athletic Equipment Fines:  All equipment returns or fines must be resolved by Tuesday, May 23rd. Don’t delay, see Coach Mittry in his office or it will keep you from receiving your cap and gown.

  • Chromebook purchase opportunity:  You may purchase your current Chromebook anytime before Tuesday, May 30th.  Avoid any lines and do it early.  The process to purchase the Chromebook begins at the finance office to pay and get the receipt.  Then take the receipt and computer to the library to check it in, have it converted from a SCHS asset, and then it will be reset to be exclusively yours.
