Graduation 2022

Graduation is approaching fast!  There is important information you need to know so your senior will experience a successful end to the school year.  We hope you and your graduate will enjoy the Senior events and Graduation ceremony.

Graduation Day is an official school day operating on a minimum day bell schedule for grades 9-11.  Attendance for seniors will be taken through participation in the mandatory graduation practice.

Please note each section below for information that applies to you or your senior.  If you have any questions, please call Krissy Toon, Assistant Principal’s Secretary for the Class of 2022 at (619) 660-3526.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Please note that only seniors who have met ALL graduation requirements will be allowed to participate in the Graduation Ceremony.  This includes all required classes, senior interview/website/community service, paying all fines, and completing all disciplinary assignments.  Students will not participate in graduation or receive their diplomas if all graduation requirements have not been met.

As the senior year comes to a close, it is important for all students to attend daily and continually check academic standing through Canvas.  Please stay in contact with your student’s teachers to monitor progress.

ALL FINES MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO GRADUATION.

SENIOR EVENTS

Cap and Gown Distribution - June 1

Cap and Gown distribution will be held in the Quad at 8am - All fines must be paid prior to pick up.

Good news!  They will be available tonight at the Senior Sunset for distribution from 6:30-7:30pm.  You must have your ID and they must be picked up in person.  You may NOT pick it up for somebody else and your family members can’t pick it up for you.  After you get your cap and gown, join the fun as we appreciate the setting sun.

If you are attending the Baccalaureate ceremony on Saturday, you will be expected to wear your cap and gown.  The cap and gowns will also be available for distribution the morning of the ceremony at Skyline church (not at school).  You must be there no later than 9:30am to obtain your cap and gown in time for the ceremony.

For those not attending either the Senior Sunset or Baccalaureate events, not to worry, your cap and gown will be available at your convenience in the finance office starting Monday morning (June 6).

A last minute reminder to take care of your outstanding fines so there is no delay on caps and gowns.  Also, remember there are no adornments or alterations allowed on the cap and gown.

Yearbook Distribution—June 2

All students may pick up their yearbooks in the Gym between 4:00-6:00pm.

Graduation—June 9 –6:00PM – SCHS Stadium

Students must report to the QUAD no later than 4:00pm

Steele Canyon Graduation Ceremonies have a proud tradition of excellence and decorum.  Our seniors work to uphold our core values and we intend to continue this practice.  In order to give this ceremony the respect it deserves and to afford each guest an exceptional opportunity, there are guidelines for both participants and guests.  Gates for guests open at 4:30pm.

The event will be live streamed on the day of the event for those not able to attend and can be accessed by simply clicking https://stream1.sdcoe.net/wc/schsgrad2022.  This livestream link will also be provided through Parent Square as the big day approaches and will be posted on the SCHS website at schs cougars.org

SENIORS

All seniors are expected to dress appropriately for the ceremony, as well as wearing the cap and gown.  No high heels (stilettos) will be allowed as they can damage the track and turf.  The only item students will be allowed to bring with them will be their car keys.

No electronic devices of any kind (including cell phones) will be allowed.  This is to ensure the appropriate decorum for our ceremony.

No additional decorations to the cap and gown are allowed.  Students who make unapproved modifications to the cap and/or gown will not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony.

GUESTS

No balloons, air horns, party poppers, large signs or banners, food or drinks, or lawn chairs are allowed in the stadium. No backpacks, large purses or bags will be allowed into the stadium.  If you would like to use an umbrella for sun blockage, please lower it once the ceremony begins in respect for our other guests.

PARKING

Parking will be extremely limited.  Please plan to arrive early to avoid delays.  Parking on Campo Road is dangerous and illegal.   Please note that this highway is marked “No Parking” and CHP may choose to enforce this at any time at their discretion.  Exiting the parking lot will be slow.  It may take  guests at least one hour OR MORE to exit the lot due to multiple parking areas and pedestrian traffic on Campo Road.  Please be patient with our traffic guides as they will be doing their best in a difficult situation. DO NOT park in areas designated as “no parking” or your vehicle may be towed at the owner's expense.

A limited number of disabled parking spaces will be available on a first come, first served basis near the entrance to the stadium.  Guests with disabilities can be dropped off near the gate before parking.

SHUTTLE SERVICE

Each year we experience extreme traffic delays on Campo Road prior to and following the ceremony and parking is limited on campus.  You may wish to take advantage of our free shuttle service provided at the Skyline Wesleyan Church located at 11330 Campo Road, La Mesa beginning at 3:30pm. The last bus leaves Skyline at 5:30pm.  Return shuttle service ends with the last bus leaving SCHS at 8:30pm.  One of the shuttle buses will be wheelchair accessible.

PICTURES

Photographs of each graduate will be taken by Cherished Memories Photography during the graduation ceremony and candids will be taken in the GYM prior to graduation (between 4-6PM).

An informational flyer will be included with your student’s diploma instructing graduates on how to establish a personalized gallery at www.cherishedmemoriesphotography.com for the purpose of purchasing pictures.
