Here is some IMPORTANT PSAT INFORMATION for Wednesday, OCTOBER 16th. This will be a normal Wednesday schedule. Students taking the PSAT have the schedule below.
On Wednesday, October 16th, we are happy to announce that we are administering The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, PSAT. Approximately 3.5 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. As with the SAT, the PSAT has separate math and verbal sections and a third section testing English grammar. All juniors will take the PSAT at no cost thanks to a grant, and we have approximately 225 sophomores that are registered to take the assessment as well!
Teachers who primarily teach 11th grade will be proctoring the test in their classroom. A complete testing schedule is being finalized for teachers and students and will be published in the coming days. 10th graders who are electing to participate will be taking the exam in the gym. Any 11th graders who are not in a pure 11th grade classroom will be assigned a testing room/gym.
Some important reasons for administering the PSAT are:
As a school we want our students to be college career ready.
Students have the option to link to the Kahn Academy who has partnered up with the College Board. https://www.khanacademy.org/sat
To receive feedback on student strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. Students can then focus on preparation in those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.
Students will see how performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.
Students will enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (grade 11 only).
Students will help prepare for the SAT and become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.
Students will receive information from colleges when they check "yes" to Student Search Service.
Thank you for your support in this schedule change in order to best support our students!!
Students attendance records will not be negatively affected by taking the test. The PSAT is a preliminary or practice test that will help prepare 4-year college-bound students for the SAT, which they will take for the first time in spring of their junior year.
The cost for sophomores to take the PSAT is $18.00 and it can be purchased now on the TotalRegistration website at www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/053613. The deadline for sophomores to register for the PSAT is Friday, September 13th.
