Orchestra
The Steele Canyon Orchestra Program is a vibrant part of the Steele Instrumental Music Association (SIMA) family, bringing together musicianship, creativity, teamwork, and a shared passion for music. Whether students are beginners or experienced musicians, our program provides opportunities to learn, grow, and perform.
Our program features two orchestras during the fall semester. Beginning Orchestra (Block 3) focuses on building foundational skills, while Advanced Strings (Block 2) challenges experienced musicians with advanced techniques and orchestral literature. In the spring, both groups combine into one orchestra, allowing students to perform together with confidence and skill.
Beyond the classroom, students perform at concerts, festivals, and special events, exploring everything from classical masterpieces to contemporary favorites and film scores. Each year, our orchestra also travels to Disney's Backstage Soundtrack Sessions, where students experience the excitement of recording music for film.
Whether performing on stage, recording at Disney, or exploring new musical opportunities, our students develop confidence, leadership, lasting friendships, and a sense of belonging within the SIMA music family.
One Orchestra. One Sound. One Family.

CLASSES
The Steele Canyon Orchestra program offers students the opportunity to explore and perform classical orchestral literature while developing instrumental technique, music reading, musical comprehension, and ensemble skills. The program features two ensembles designed to support students at different experience levels.
Beginning Orchestra
(Block 3 – Fall Semester Only) welcomes students with little or no prior string instrument experience. This course emphasizes foundational skills, including proper technique, music literacy, and ensemble performance, preparing students to successfully transition into the advanced ensemble in the spring.
Advanced Orchestra
Advanced Strings (Block 2) is designed for students with previous string instrument experience, focusing on advanced technique, independent musicianship, musical interpretation, and challenging orchestral repertoire.
Full Orchestra
During the spring semester, both ensembles combine into one orchestra, allowing students to rehearse and perform together as a unified ensemble. This structure provides beginning musicians with the necessary foundation to confidently participate alongside experienced players. Additionally, orchestra students travel annually to Disneyland to participate in Disney's Backstage Soundtrack Sessions, providing a unique opportunity to experience professional music recording and the role of orchestral musicians in film soundtracks.
