AVID

Being a program that usually lasts all of high school for most students, AVID is a class that would not be itself without the people. Your AVID family (the class you'll stay with throughout high school) becomes an important part of your daily routine a single term of school.

We welcome you to get to know the rest of your AVID family, and for those returning, to understand a little more about them. Your instructors, tutors, and fellow students are more than happy to receive new members and possibly future friends.

iAcademy

iAcademy is an online, personalized, independent learning program in East County, San Diego.  This is a great alternative education option for Steele Canyon students and families who want a more flexible, customized, and self-directed education.

ASB

We, the SCHS ASB, work to serve our community by creating an inclusive and spirited environment for all students. We build relationships, utilize our strengths, adapt from our weaknesses, and show initiative. We accurately represent and actively work to address the needs of the student body in order to enhance the high school experience of all students and be a catalyst for positive change within our community.

Cougar XL provides in-school social emotional and academic support to all students. Students are provided an opportunity to EXCEL with the support of Academic Coaches. As an essential component of the program, Academic Coaches strive to build healthy relationships and to meet students where they are upon entering the program.

Cougar XL Program Overview

Cougar XL serves as social, emotional, and academic support built into your student’s class schedule with the objective of empowering students to take charge of their own success. Students have the opportunity to earn credit (2.5 credits *must pass both core classes to earn credit*) toward graduation.

Academic Coaches cultivate consistent, caring, and developmentally supportive relationships with students in a safe learning environment void of judgment and bias. Under the guidance of college-educated Academic Coaches who collaborate with staff, students receive tutoring primarily in math, science, and humanities. At the same time, Academic Coaches teach both academic and life success skills, such as but not limited to, social and emotional awareness, organizational efficiency, and study skills.

In addition to supporting students, Cougar XL promotes what it means to be a student at Steele Canyon or a “Cougar For Life”. This includes the expectations we have for students school-wide: Be prepared. Be engaged. Be accountable. Be appropriate.

SCHS Citizenship Rubric

Not an exhaustive rubric and should only be used as a guideline for expected student behaviors.

Steele Canyon High School is committed to creating a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. Students play a significant role in supporting these goals by adhering to a carefully selected set of social norms. We believe that the core principles of high-quality citizenship are embedded in our community values and expectations.

This rubric lists some, but not all, of the behaviors associated with citizenship vis-á-vis student conduct in the classroom. It is the responsibility of each teacher to assign citizenship grades. While a student’s grade should reflect the student’s conduct as a whole, it should be noted that a serious violation may result in a substantial drop in citizenship grade.  As a social contract, this Citizenship Rubric holds the student and the teacher to the belief that the norms expressed below will benefit the classroom community and will be adhered to and enforced equally.
