Airam

Hi, Im Airam Gutierrez I am 18 years old I am a first year at UCSD. My major is Neurobiology at Revelle College. I am an AVID alumni. I just graduated from Steele in 2025. AVID helped me so much in my organization and note taking skills. It helped me as a first generation college student it helped me apply for college and scholarships. My favorite subject to tutor is biology since that will mainly be the main subject in my major and I really enjoy the subject so if anyone needs help with it I am willing to help. I am also bilingual which lets me help kids who are not fluent in English or need help with anything related to it. I am looking forward to helping AVID students in any obstacles or fears they might have.

Angel

Hello! My name is Angel Hernandez. I graduated from Steele Canyon in 2023 and am currently a Junior at San Diego State University. I’m majoring in Business Administration in hopes of starting my own business one day. Thanks to AVID, I was accepted into my dream school, and to this day, they continue to provide me with the support I need. I became a tutor because I love helping people and want to give back to AVID for the support it provided me.

Austin

My name is Austin Espinoza, and I'm a first-year at UC San Diego majoring in Oceanic & Atmospheric Science. A bit about myself is that I graduated from Steele Canyon earlier this year and my favorite subjects are science and math! Through AVID, I felt myself develop into a more knowledgeable and capable person via the activities we did. I learned how to better manage my time, and also develop healthier studying habits that I'll be utilizing in college. As an AVID alumni, I couldn't be more grateful to have the opportunity to become an AVID Tutor. I look forward to being able to help AVID students with tutorials and their college-navigation inquiries!

Edgar

My name is Edgar Romero, I am 22 years old and I'm currently in my final semester of obtaining a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University. I am an SCHS AVID alumni. I graduated from Steele Canyon back in 2021.  AVID helped me a lot when applying to colleges and getting me through difficult classes while teaching me how to create study groups for college and time management skills. My degree requires a lot of math and physics so I mainly focus on tutoring those subjects whenever anyone needs help on them. I look forward to meeting the AVID students and helping them surpass the obstacles that some of their classes might bring in order for them to be successful in the future.

AVID allowed me to have access to so many resources in my journey towards university, in addition to acting as a second family during all four years.
